Shooting stars – Night of San Lorenzo

The observation point was the Po Delta at Ca’ Mello – Porto Tolle. In the Po Delta one can find places with limited light pollution that allow observing the celestial vault in its beauty. August 10 in the Christian calendar commemorates St. Lawrence, and at this time of year the Earth approaches the orbit of comet Swift -Tuttle. The comet in the course of its motion around the Sun releases solid debris into space. This debris is attracted by Earth’s gravitational pull and colliding with the atmosphere burns up, creating the tail of light portrayed in the photo.

The photo was taken on August 09, 2021 with an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III camera – Olympus M.Zuiko ED 17 mm F 1.2 PRO lens. Shutter speed: 9.4 sec; ISO 400; Aperture: f/1.2
